Aman Ki Asha: Hope for a new peaceful year ahead…

Posted on 03 January 2010 by BMMBoxer

Every New Year begins with a hope, a hope for change, a hope for peace and a hope to fulfill all our wishes. This New Year was no different except for an effort taken by Times of India to turn these hopes into reality. The Times of India has initiated a cross-border peace project in collaboration with Pakistan’s Jang Group and Geo. The initiative titled “Aman Ki Asha”, aims to resolve all the outstanding issues between India-Pakistan.

The Aman Ki Asha campaign boasts an exciting feature in the form of a moving peace anthem composed by famous Indian lyricist and poet, Gulzar, which is recited by none other than Bollywood’s Amitabh Bachchan — a star, who, few will deny, is larger than life on both sides of the border. The anthem is sung by Pakistan’s Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and India’s Shankar Mahadevan, two of the subcontinent’s most celebrated vocalists.

The campaign features some locals across the border enacting a particular sequence, which is identified by Indians through binoculars. A phone call is made to All India Radio to request for a song. The locals across the border are glued to the radio and get extremely happy to hear the song, “Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge” (the song enacted by them and requested by Indians.)

The work done is commendable as it taps the emotions of people across both the countries.

Amitabh Bachchan, who also recorded his voice for the campaign, added, “I believe it is more important to build bridges than to complain that the road is bumpy. This campaign will help the two countries hold hands in friendship.”

Frames Film Festival, an initiative of the Department of Mass Media of SIES (Nerul) College of Arts Science and Commerce, is the pioneering undergraduate film festival in India. It is a unique event, conceptualized to help young students showcase their talents in film – making.

An array of eminent media personalities such as Mahesh Bhatt, Madhur Bhandarkar, Nagesh Kuknoor, Sanjay Gupta, Rituparna Sengupta, Rohan Sippy, Sophie Choudhary, Aziz Mirza, Kundan Shah, Sanjay Gadhvi, Raghav Sachar, Prachi Desai, among others, have graced the event.

Frames has received news coverage from media organizations like NDTV 24×7, Zee Network, Aaj Tak, Sahara One, Channel 7 and NMTV. Apart from the above mentioned broadcast channel, print publication like DNA (Navi Mumbai), Hindustan Times, Indian Express, The Asian Age, Loksatta and Times of India have covered the event.

7th Annual Frames Film Festival

When Mumbai was under siege in 2008, it witnessed a lot of destruction. Pain, suffering and loss of life and resources caused the spirit of Mumbai to be daunted by the dastardly and unprovoked attacks. The city seemed to be thrown off the tracks and the blame game had begun.

Taking a cue from the small group of citizens who felt that though we were attacked, it was time to move on, Frames has decided to celebrate life through films. We at Frames believe that though we were down, it’s time we rise, though we cried, it’s time to wipe away the tears and put away the pain. It’s now time to move on leaving behind the haphazard blame game and stand up for purposeful action which can only be ignited by a youthful passion.

The 3 days of Frames will be revolutionary ones as the established mindset will be challenged and a new line of thought of responsibility and courage takes root. Join us even as we celebrate life and re-live the days of the ‘Flower Power’ era and usher in a change in the attitudes and mindset of people using the power of films.
