About Frames

The Department of Mass Media of SIES (Nerul) College of Arts, Science and Commerce will be hosting the 7th Annual Frames Film Festival from the 21st to the 23rd of January 2010.

Frames Film Festival, an initiative of the Department of Mass Media of SIES (Nerul) College of Arts Science and Commerce, is the pioneering undergraduate film festival in India. It is a unique event, conceptualized to help young students showcase their talents in film – making.

An array of eminent media personalities such as Mahesh Bhatt, Madhur Bhandarkar, Nagesh Kuknoor, Sanjay Gupta, Rituparna Sengupta, Rohan Sippy, Sophie Choudhary, Aziz Mirza, Kundan Shah, Sanjay Gadhvi, Raghav Sachar, Prachi Desai, among others, have graced the event.

Frames has received news coverage from media organizations like NDTV 24×7, Zee Network, Aaj Tak, Sahara One, Channel 7 and NMTV. Apart from the above mentioned broadcast channel, print publication like DNA (Navi Mumbai), Hindustan Times, Indian Express, The Asian Age, Loksatta and Times of India have covered the event.

7th Annual Frames Film Festival

When Mumbai was under siege in 2008, it witnessed a lot of destruction. Pain, suffering and loss of life and resources caused the spirit of Mumbai to be daunted by the dastardly and unprovoked attacks. The city seemed to be thrown off the tracks and the blame game had begun.

Taking a cue from the small group of citizens who felt that though we were attacked, it was time to move on, Frames has decided to celebrate life through films. We at Frames believe that though we were down, it’s time we rise, though we cried, it’s time to wipe away the tears and put away the pain. It’s now time to move on leaving behind the haphazard blame game and stand up for purposeful action which can only be ignited by a youthful passion.

The 3 days of Frames will be revolutionary ones as the established mindset will be challenged and a new line of thought of responsibility and courage takes root. Join us even as we celebrate life and re-live the days of the ‘Flower Power’ era and usher in a change in the attitudes and mindset of people using the power of films.

UPG College Presents 16:9 International Film Festival

Posted on 30 December 2009 by BMMBoxer

Event: 16:9 International Film Festival
Host: Usha Pravin Gandhi College of Management
When: 15th & 16th January, 2010

As a student of BMM, one generally dreams of outdoor shoots, news reports, media personnel, and of course filmmaking. The perception of glam never leaves the mind as one enters into this field filled, right from the first year, with dreams of the limelight!

Here’s a call from some of your brethren in the field of filmmaking – sixteen:nine International Film Festival is here to let you live your dream of the glamorous side of Mass Media. A short-film festival that encourages student filmmakers from all over the world to express themselves. SNIFF hosts not only film screenings, but is also home to a wide range of filmmaking-related contests – such as photography, acting, Mise-en-Scene, editing and all things remotely filmy. Welcome aboard a world of hard work, sleepless nights – (aren’t we BMMites already used to it?) that surely leads to a universe of glitz, glamour and success.

SNIFF is your first step towards being a full-fledged cinematic persona – giving you the ultimate film experience.

Organised by the students of SVKM’s Usha Pravin Gandhi College of Management – SNIFF also boasts of being the first student-organized short film festival from Mumbai to go International. For a festival barely 3 years old, and with an initial association of 7 countries apart from India, SNIFF now boasts of a mind-boggling 40 country bond, which promises to expand with coming years. Our participants hail from countries such as U.S.A., U.K., Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Romania, Japan etc.

The prizes, in the past years, have included certificates and trophies, and Internships for the winner of Actor hunt. The alluring competitions attracted students from all over the country. It was heartening to see the enthusiasm of the aspiring filmmakers of tomorrow. College contingents also competed for the Best College Trophy – a temptation left for you to exploit even this year, and with the commencement of the Polling event – it just seems closer.

Another feather in the hat is the starlist that takes pride in associating with us – from veterans like Shabana Azmi , Kiran V. Shantaram and Aziz Mirza- to the younger, enthusiastic generation of film personalities such as Anurag Kashyap, Perizaad Zorabian and Imran Khan. SNIFF ’09 also had the beautiful Madhuri Dixit gracing the closing ceremony along with Imran Khan, Sanjay Gupta and Goldie Behl.

With a golden opportunity arriving this January 15th and 16th, the wise will set their equipment in action and the creative will burst with ideas as sixteen:nine International Film Festival 2010 marches in.

Brace yourself for another ride through films, fantasies and the fun element you’ve been waiting for in the world of Media.

Footprints of FootPrints ’09!

Posted on 20 November 2009 by BMMBoxer

Mumbai Footprints, 15th November, 2009 was a success. With four separate panel discussions (Environment, New Media, Corporate and Entertainment) coupled with a play from Theatre Group ‘Utopia’ and a grand performance by singer/composer Raghav Sachar, the event was poised to win over the audience.

The event saw a turnout of around a fifteen hundred plus strong crowd. Students and youngsters from different backgrounds (Zoology to New Media) thronged the gates of Rangsharda Auditorium at 8am in the morning!

The event was inaugurated by Professor Ujjwal Kumar Chowdhury, Dean SIU (Symbiosis International University) and Director SIMC (Symbiosis International University) with the lighting of the holy samai. The panel included Prof. Dr Chandra Krishnamurthy, Vice Chancellor SNDT Women’s University and Acting VC, Mumbai University along with other eminent academicians.

The environmental panel included Mr. Shashank Verma, CEO, Clean Star Trust, Mr. Rahul Alvares, Author/Herpatologist and Dr. Rashneh Pardiwala, Founder, Centre for Environment Research and Education. They discussed many important facets related to environmental conservation, like how the very laws set in place to protect the wildlife end up endangering the animals because they alienate the masses from Mother Nature.

The New Media Panel comprised of Mr. Suman Srivastava, CEO, Euro RSCG-Future of New Media, Mr. Joel Pannikot, Co-Founder and CEO of Athena India, Mr. M.P Singh and Vidyut Kodagi, both eminent Film-makers.

The session was concluded by Mr. Prahlad Kakkar, CEO, Genesis. The topic of discussion was ‘Are the agencies focusing on awards or ROI’s?’

Examples from the music industry were taken up, and the changing pattern of music consumption was discussed. The panel also discussed ‘The Rise of Advertainment,’ where Advertising and Entertainment are integrated to lure the consumers.

Prahlad Kakkar began the session with a question, “What is Advertising All About?”

He went on to explain that advertising is nothing but storytelling, conveying your message to your target audience. However you need a strong, genuine and passionate, and yes an extremely well told content to make the difference. To have good content, you need to have a knowledge database. You need to do your research. He went on to add, “Today’s pornography becomes the literature for tomorrow.”

The second session began with a play from theatre group ‘UTOPIA.’ The play focused on diversity of Mumbai Life and how the diversity is the cement that unites the city. The play was well appreciated by the audience.

The corporate panel comprised of Mr. Chandramouli, CEO, Blue Lotus Communication, Mr. Arijit Sengupta, President, Oligvy PR Worldwide, Mr. Viraaf Pocha, owner of Landmark Events and Mr. Sumit Roy, UnivBrands. The panel discussed the effectiveness of Experiential Media and newer and alternative ways to handle brand communication. Gone is the ‘zamanaa’ of just word of mouth, it is word of mouse now!

The Entertainment Panel comprised Mr. Marc Robinson, Owner, Shoot Talent Management & Founder of Dubai Fashion Week.

Roshan Abbas said that the youth today has a very short attention span because of information overload and important information is lost in the process while Mr. Robinson used personal anecdotes to urge the youth to enjoy each and every moment of life because you never know when you might loose it! Communicate, position yourself, network and leverage yourself. Be humble, dedicated and you will get what you want from life. Keep at it, in spite of all the hardships was his message to the youth of India.

The day ended with a performance by Raghav Sachar, the recipient of the Young Communicator Award of the day!
