Besides visitors from Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and other regions, local morning walkers and joggers also throng the touristdestinations to have a great time with nature.
With schools closing for summer vacations, parents can take their kids to the scenic and exciting tourist spots which have been mentioned following where they have fun with nature.

    Kharghar Hills- Mini Lonavala tour

On the way to Kharghar, take a left on uphill as one leaves the boundaries of CBD. It is a very cool place on hilltop. People prefer to come here for morning and evening walk. Youths come here to have fun and just chill out. It is closed most of the times in the rainy season because of the landslide. A must to visit this place in evening hours if you are around. It is best to visit this place when the monsoon just starts.

Kharghar Hill is a perfect spot in Navi Mumbai for a jog, morning walk or evening stroll. Just be sure to reach before 6 pm, the gates close then.
The hill is better known as mini Lonavala. If one cannot get time to visit Lonavala, they should definitely visit Kharghar hills. Since years Kharghar hills has been the most famous tourist spot because of its original natural essence.
The hills belong to CIDCO and the state forest department. "We will create nature trails and have a group of mountaineers to take people around on hikes. Tracks for mountain bikes will also be created," said Praveen Pardeshi, Principal secretary of the state forest department.
Stated Mohan Ninave, PRO, CIDCO, “In 2005, we started resorting the beauty of the hills. The flora and fauna has resorted over the years and we will continue it. Kharghar hills is really a very beautiful place in Navi Mumbai and hence it is our duty to maintain the beauty of the tourit spot.”
The tourists and local residents too love the beauty of kharghar hills.

Said Jigyasa Jain, a resident of Kharghar, “It is the loveliest place I have visited in Navi Mumbai. It has the best climate on the top of the hills. For a long drive it is the best place to visit. Everybody should visit the place regularly for peace of mind.”

    Karnala Bird Sanctuary

Karnala is located 61 kms South of Mumbai, on the Mumbai-Goa highway. It is about 10 km from Panvel. At a height of 445 metres above sea level, Karnala is known for the thumb shaped pinnacle on top and the bird sanctuary around.
The sanctuary is home to 147 species of resident and 37 species of migratory birds who visit the sanctuary during winters. Among the birds seen here are paradise fly catcher, magpie robin, malabar whistling trush, racket-tailed drongo, golden backed woodpecker, crested serpent eagle etc. Two rare birds i.e. Ashy Minimet and Spotted heart woodpeckers have been sighted here.
Karnala pinnacle is a favorite spot for professional mountain climbers.
Best time to visit for bird watching in the sanctuary is from October to April. However if one wants to enjoy the greenery, it has to be during the monsoons.

Saif Kazi, a resident of Seawoods said “I along with friends went to Karnala bird sanctuary recently. We thought that we would get to see different species at the bird sanctuary. Unfortunately, we found only three birds at the sanctuary. There is peacock, rabbit, and monkeys. We felt a bit disappointed as we did not find anything special there.”

“We went to the bird sanctuary, it is a good tourist spot for one to enjoy. Especially children will enjoy as birds are there but not for a long time. There is a fort in the sanctuary but we failed to reach there as it would take an hour to go there. There should be some transport facility to reach the fort as everyone cannot walk for an hour,” stated Pallavi Shah.

    Pandavkada Falls

Pandavkada Falls is a waterfall located in Kharghar, the suburb of Navi Mumbai. According to legend, the Pandavas once visited this place and took bath in these falls during exile. This waterfall is approximately 350 metres high, from where the water hits the surface of the rocks with force equivalent to a piercing bullet.
This waterfall is a popular picnic spot, rendering an escape from the hustle and bustle of the crowded city. It also houses Buddhist caves that attract various travelers coming to the region.
The ideal time for visiting this waterfall is the monsoon season, which commences in June and lasts till early September. CIDCO has declared this waterfall as a dangerous spot for swimming, due to the drowning of many school students.
This location is easy to reach by local trains running on the Harbour Line and Trans Harbour Line. Auto rickshaws can also be availed from outside Kharghar Railway Station to this waterfall.

“I visited Pandavkada Falls with my friends. It is a nice place to have fun with your friends. But the joy turns into sorrow as there are no beverages and bathroom facilities are available at the fall. You have to bring snacks or some food with you as there is nothing to eat,” said Arun Kumar, a student.

Rani Sharma, a resident of Kharghar said, “Pandavkada Falls are the best destination to have fun especially for youngsters. Monsoon is the best time to visit the falls. As swimming is prohibited we cannot enjoy much. But the greenery and scenery are enough to make your day beautiful.”
